We can confront our triggers and attachments and samskaras in a way that forgives ourselves and others while also embracing our self with full love through mantra and rituals of our first house lord and Nakshatra lord.
Noticing a “flaw” in our behaviours, whether valid (self-awareness, non-ignorance) or invalid (blamed, shamed), can bring up a lot of reactionary physiological symptoms (shallow breath, hunched over, digestive irregularities, insomnia, stress-related heart damage), emotional symptoms (grief, anger, sadness), and so on.
When that happens, it is like a fork in the road.
- One of the paths is the path of being-with and processing through these triggers and samskaras however long it might take (dependent on dasha and chart for one’s constitution).
- The other path is one of non-ego, of noticing that as if from above, non-attached (not dissociated though, that would be on the first path).
Yet, we have no choice of whether to take one path or not, they are both taken, they both exist. Our awareness of which path we are present with can be a tool of recovery to see “oh I am on the first path right now and am really in the thick of this trigger.” Without judgement, we notice, “this is what’s happening.”
When there is a judgement, that’s ok, that is the first path’s voice of not being good enough or healed enough or strong enough etc., which is not the same as the voice of the second path. The voice of the second path says, “oh dear, I see the suffering happening, I see that all of this is happening to it right now, and I send that suffering so much love and support, though I am outside of that suffering.”
Both paths are happening always. When we are stuck in the reactions of the first path, the rocky heavy burdensome path, one potential tool of recovery is to meditate on the first house lord and the rising nakshatra lord through mantra (japa), to repeatedly call in your very self, your “thatness” in a way that fills you with self-given love and support.
Immediate Tools of Recovery
When we are neck-deep in the loathing of the ego-trapped triggered mind, we can practice the following:
- 11 slow diaphragmatic breaths
- soften the shoulders and face
- gently massage your face and scalp
- imagine your heart: a tight scared organ that requires your soft love
- imagine your rising sign’s lord, regardless of where he is in your chart, and chant its mantra 108 times. while doing so, absorb its name, which is your name, it is you.
- now do that for your rising nakshatra lord’s name as well.
By doing these simple little remedies, we can energize and enliven our self through the power of our rising sign lord. We are ruled in body and spirit by that lord, but in times of strife we forget the power within us through blame (external and/or internal). These little remedies can bring us back to ourselves with love.
By reciting the mantra for our rising sign lord and/or nakshatra lord, we are in a way saying our own name, and by doing so building up our awareness of and connection to our own vibrational source energy.
Mantras for Rising Sign Lords
The following indicates suitable mantras for this purpose, based on your Sidereal Zodiac (not Tropical/Western). As well, Vedic Astrology uses Whole Signs, so the entire sign fits in the entire house. If you do not have a Vedic chart, you can obtain one for free on AstroSage.com.
You do not need to do all of these mantras, they are offerings connected to the topics of each sign and ruler, as well as the mantras for each planetary graha themselves. Take it or leave it. Typically these would be done regularly, with 108 repetitions (the number of beads on a mala and the significant number for astrology and mathematics), leading to a sort of buzzing vibration within your head and throat and all parts of you that both created the vibration and received it through the naming of your Self through the name of the planetary ruler.
If you do not know your rising nakshatra, head to AstroSage to obtain your sidereal Vedic chart, which will also tell you what your Ascendant (rising) Nakshatra is. Below is a guide I have made to quickly reference the ruler of each rising Nakshatra.
